Thanks Giving

Não há feriado que seja mais essencialmente americano do que o Dia de Ação de Graças que ocorre na quarta quinta-feira de novembro, é um feriado nacional anual nos Estados Unidos e Canadá e algumas ilhas do Caribe, o Thanksgiving Day é extremamente tradicional e refaz os passos dos primeiros colonos em terras norte-americanas. Esses peregrinos, ao compartilharem refeições com a população nativa, simbolizaram a importância de se agradecer e celebrar a boa colheita.
O Thanksgiving Day é um feriado dedicado inteiramente a agradecer e celebrar tudo o que ocorreu de bom no ano que passou.

Nessa celebração, as famílias se reúnem para compartilhar momentos de paz, gratidão e, claro, uma mesa cheia de comida! O menu do dia de Ação de Graças inclui o tradicional peru, purê de batata, batata doce e torta de abóbora. Na parte do entretenimento, grandes desfiles e muito futebol americano tornam tudo mais festivo.

Apesar de ter sido amplamente comemorado a partir de 1621, foi só em 1863 que o presidente Abraham Lincoln declarou que o Thanksgiving Day ocorre todo ano. Em 1941, o Congresso declarou o Dia de Ação de Graças um feriado nacional.

O primeiro relato do Thanksgiving Day aconteceu em 1621, na vila de Plymouth. Lá moravam religiosos ingleses refugiados, ou popularmente conhecidos como peregrinos. Após terem vivenciado um péssimo período de colheita no ano anterior, em 1620, em que muitos cidadãos morreram, a boa safra de 1621 era motivo de muita comemoração.
Em um determinado dia daquele ano, os peregrinos convidaram os indígenas nativos daquela região, que os ensinaram a plantar do modo correto, para compartilharem de sua refeição em comemoração à boa colheita que tiveram naquele período.

 

 

There’s no holiday essentially more American-like than Thanksgiving, which takes place on the fourth Wednesday of November. It’s a yearly national holiday in The US and in Canada. However, in Canada it takes place on the second Monday of October.

Thanksgiving is highly traditional and retakes the first steps of the colonizers in Native American lands. These pilgrims, when sharing their meals with the native people, symbolized the importance of thanking and celebrating the good harvest.

 

Thanksgiving Day is a Holiday dedicated entirely to thanking and celebrating everything good that happened the year before. The word is self-explanatory: Giving thanks.

 

In this celebration, people gather together to share moments of peace, gratefulness, and, of course, a table full of food! Thanksgiving menu includes the traditional turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato and pumpkin pie. In terms of entertainment, big parades and American football make it a big festivity.

 

Although having widely been celebrated since 1621, it was only in 1863 that president Abraham Lincoln declared that Thanksgiving Day would take place on a yearly basis. In 1941, the Congress declared Thanksgiving Day a national Holiday.

 

The first report of Thanksgiving occurred in 1621, in the Plymouth Village.  There lived religious refugees from England, also known as pilgrims. After experiencing a terrible harvest in the previous year, 1620, in which many citizens died, the upcoming one from 1621 was a reason for celebration. On a certain day that year, the pilgrims invited the native people from that region, which taught them how to plant appropriately, to share their meal in honor to the good harvest they’d had then.
